Communications Specialist/Technical Writer (Remote Opportunity)
VetsEZ is seeking a full-time remote Communications Specialist/Technical Writer to work closely with the development teams and support the deployment, management, and extension of knowledge management programs. The ideal candidate will have a technical background and the proven ability to deliver high-quality technical documentation. The candidate must reside within the continental US. Responsibilities:
- Assist in writing and/or editing technical documents, including business proposals, reports, user manuals, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements.
- Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and project management ensuring that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations.
- Research and gather technical and background information for inclusion in project documentation and deliverables.
- Consult relevant information sources, including library resources, technical and financial documents, and client and project personnel, to obtain background information and verify pertinent guidelines and regulations governing project deliverables.
- Meet with authors and other team representatives to review documents, compile inputs/corrections, resolve incompatible comments and provide final publishable documentaiton.
- Explain in simple language scientific and technical ideas that are difficult for the average reader to understand.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in communications, engineering, or a related field.
- 2 years of relevant technical writing experience.
- Experience in page or screen layout, design, adherence to known styles and citation methods (APA, ASA, MLA, etc.).
- Ability to use a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and scheduling tools to create and enhance content for projects and team deliverables.
- Familiarity with government (especially VA) documents and templates.
- Experience as a copy editor, writer, proofreader or technical editor.
- Understanding of project management principles.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with superior attention to detail.
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience authoring or editing policy and/or process manuals for a government Program Management Office (PMO>
- Ability to obtain a government clearance.
