Position Overview – Ramp Agent (Customer Service Agent)

careerzynith is seeking motivated, detail‑oriented individuals to join our ground operations team in Michigan as Ramp Agents. This full‑time role blends hands‑on freight handling with exceptional customer service, ensuring that every piece of cargo and mail reaches its destination safely, on time, and in perfect condition. While the position is primarily based at the airport, we also offer flexible scheduling options that can accommodate remote administrative tasks related to data entry and logistics coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Freight Handling & Transportation: Safely lift, load, unload, and move cargo, mail, and baggage between aircraft and ground vehicles, adhering to weight limits of 50‑70 pounds per item.
  • Aircraft Positioning: Direct arriving and departing aircraft to and from designated gate positions, ensuring efficient turnaround times.
  • Protection & Security: Guard cargo, mail, and equipment from damage, loss, and adverse weather conditions through vigilant monitoring and proper storage practices.
  • Ground Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain ground support equipment such as belt loaders, tugs, and tow trucks in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Data Entry & Tracking: Use handheld scanners and computer systems to accurately log cargo movements, update shipment statuses, and ensure traceability throughout the logistics chain.
  • Shift Flexibility: Work varied shifts—including early mornings, evenings, and weekends—based on flight schedules and operational demand, typically ranging from 20 to 40 hours per week.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and participate in regular safety briefings and training sessions.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate closely with pilots, flight attendants, baggage handlers, and other ground staff to achieve seamless operations.
  • Customer Interaction: Provide courteous assistance to passengers and cargo clients, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly.

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift and move items up to 70 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Strong command of English—both spoken and written.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal safety, the safety of others, and the protection of confidential information.
  • Willingness to wear and maintain required PPE, including hearing protection, safety‑toe footwear, hard hats, and high‑visibility clothing.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience in airport ground operations, freight handling, or logistics.
  • Familiarity with airport safety regulations and FAA guidelines.
  • Proficiency with data‑entry software, barcode scanners, and inventory management systems.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a proactive attitude toward operational challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and weather conditions.

Core Competencies for Success

  • Attention to Detail: Accurate tracking of cargo and meticulous adherence to loading procedures.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform repetitive lifting and walking tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Team Orientation: Collaborative mindset that supports colleagues and contributes to a positive work atmosphere.
  • Customer Focus: Commitment to delivering courteous, helpful service to passengers and cargo clients.
  • Safety Mindset: Consistent application of safety protocols and willingness to report hazards.
  • Adaptability: Capacity to thrive in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing operational environment.
