Philanthropy Manager (IASLC Foundation)

Description The Philanthropy Manager, in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer, develops and executes the IASLC’s global philanthropic strategy for individual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and support for the IASLC Foundation. Key responsibilities will include donor engagement, revenue growth, and long-term relationship development in support of the IASLC’s mission and IASLC Foundation initiatives. The Philanthropy Manager cultivates a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects, leads fundraising campaigns and initiatives, and collaborates cross-functionally to build a sustainable and diversified philanthropic revenue stream. This exempt, nonsupervisory position reports to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and is physically based at our downtown Denver, CO office on a hybrid work schedule. Essential Functions: In collaboration with the CDO, develop and execute a comprehensive philanthropic strategy aligned with IASLC’s strategic plan and IASLC Foundation priorities. Increase revenue growth across annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and support for the IASLC Foundation. Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 100–150 individual donors and prospects. Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through personalized engagement strategies. Identify, qualify, and advance new major gift prospects, with a focus on increasing domestic and global engagement. Identify and pursue grant opportunities from private and family foundations. Serve as the staff liaison to the IASLC Foundation Advisory Board, providing support and communication related to activities and global philanthropic initiatives. Manage philanthropic activities related to IASLC conferences and fundraising events. Lead the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, including annual campaigns and Lung Cancer Awareness Month initiatives. Support IASLC Foundation initiatives and programs through targeted fundraising efforts, including the virtual Wellness Challenge event at IASLC’s annual World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC). Develop proposals, reports, and stewardship communications for donors and foundation partners. Manage donor recognition activities, acknowledgments, and impact reporting. Working closely with the CDO, oversee the budget for the IASLC Foundation ($1.5-2M). Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop donor-facing materials and campaigns. Represent the IASLC at domestic and international meetings to cultivate donor relationships. Manage donor database (CRM) systems, ensuring data integrity, and accurate reporting. Track fundraising performance and analyze campaign effectiveness. Partner with internal teams to align fundraising with organizational priorities. Ensure compliance with fundraising best practices and organizational policies.

Requirements

CURRENT RESUME/CV AND COVER LETTER REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION FOR CONSIDERATION. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of 4-5 years of demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising, philanthropy, donor relations, or related field. Demonstrated success in cultivating and securing major gifts. Experience managing donor portfolios and executing fundraising campaigns. Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and meet revenue-driven goals. Professional written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of principles, ethics, and best practices for successful philanthropic activities. Thorough understanding and demonstrated experience with fundraising tools, techniques, and donor engagement strategies. Professional discretion and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information. Proficiency in using CRM systems and fundraising software. Ability to travel domestically and internationally to IASLC conferences and events, as needed (5-10%). Preferred Qualifications: Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) or advanced degree. Experience in global organizations, healthcare, oncology, or life sciences. Experience working with foundations and international donors. Demonstrated success securing gifts of $25,000 or more. Multilingual fluency/literacy and cross-cultural experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: A commitment to the mission of the IASLC and compassion for those living with a lung cancer diagnosis. Positive, professional demeanor when interacting with members, employees, and other stakeholders. Strategic thinking with strong execution capability. Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills. Flexible, resourceful, reliable, able to work independently. High level of professionalism and donor sensitivity. Strong project management and organizational skills with high level of accuracy. Ability to translate mission into compelling donor narratives. Data-driven mindset with ability to analyze fundraising performance. Ability to work collaboratively as a part of a team and maintain positive interpersonal relationships in a small, cooperative working environment. Effective project management and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. Physical Demands: Ability to sit at computer workstation for extended periods. Ability to lift/move 25-40 pounds on an occasional basis. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. Work Environment: Open office environment with computer workstations. Frequent use of phone and virtual meeting platforms. Moderate noise level. Hybrid work schedule.
